Institutional Research Interest Group

The Penn State Institutional Research Interest Group was created in 2009. We’re guided by the belief that although there are many excellent data and analysis resources at Penn State, the University can do a better job of coordination, communication, and sharing in the increasingly pertinent domain of institutional research. While we are self-formed and not a charged committee, our respective administrators have informally encouraged this initiative. We meet monthly, and to date have concentrated on quietly developing a better understanding of our roles, responsibilities, interests, needs, and capabilities.

We work toward trying to better understand the needs of those who make use of institutional research, and we help those producing such research coordinate with like-minded individuals.

If you have any questions about the Interest Group, you can contact Lu Sun, Senior Research Associate in the Office of Planning and Assessment (

Monthly Meetings

All meetings are in TSB (Technology Support Building) from 2:00-3:00pm second Friday of the month.  Meetings are canceled during Spring Break and Arts Fest Week.

To register for IR Interest Group events, call the Office of Planning and Assessment at (814) 863-8721 or email and indicate if you will be attending in person or via Zoom. University Park participants are strongly encouraged to participate in person.

Membership in the Penn State IR Interest Group spans different units and campuses across the University.  As this is a community of practice, membership is open to all Penn State institutional researchers and those who support the work of institutional research at the University.  This list is updated annually, and inquiries can be directed to Lu Sun, Senior Research Associate in the Office of Planning and Assessment (
